The NovaSure® System is the latest generation of endometrial ablation devices that treat the entire inside of the uterus at once.
NovaSure® uses radio frequency (RF) energy to permanently remove the lining (endometrium) of the uterus, reducing or eliminating future bleeding. The procedure does not require an incision or hospitalization. Patients who undergo NovaSure® are given a local anesthesia with sedation, or general anesthesia.
During the NovaSure® procedure the doctor slightly dilates the cervix and inserts a slender wand through the cervix into the uterus. The doctor then extends a triangular mesh array through the wand where it expands to conform to the dimensions of the uterine cavity.
RF energy is then delivered into the uterus for approximately 90 seconds, after which the triangular mesh array slowly retracts and the wand is gently removed from the uterus.
The NovaSure® System is the most rapid of all endometrial ablation techniques. FDA studies show that it has a high success rate and low complication rate. One advantage of NovaSure® is that hormonal pre-treatment is not needed, and it can be done at any time of the cycle.

Thermachoice® is another method of endometrial ablation that uses heat instead of energy to treat the endometrium. Instead of a wand, the procedure is done using a uterine balloon. It requires no incisions and can be done in our office under local anesthesia or in an out patient surgery setting. This 30-minute procedure usually provides permanent freedom from heavy periods.
